All Alone Together – Bunker 2
2013. Corrugated iron, branches, sandbags, earth, plywood, hessian, black fabric,woollen coats, bolts, wire, string. 515 x 260 x 260 cm.

Three sculptural installations – claustrophobic, defensive spaces reminiscent of military bunkers – were built in the gallery, and individuals and groups in Harlow invited to make use of them. Here is an opportunity to examine the meaning of selfhood and togetherness, developing the idea of a community art gallery as a place of meeting and action.
All Alone Together – Bunker 1

Project for Spitalfields. Flowers are not only a reminder of the mathematics that lurks beneath appearances, but have also always been potent symbols. The title invites the viewer to use that language of flowers to unpick the history of this place.

Sculpture commission for City Offices, London. A shimmering cloud of watery ripples is created from fifty custom-made, giant, fresnel lenses, which multiply and magnify the view of the street, transforming it into a piece of kaleidoscopic cinema.

Once Given Universe
2007. Plywood, emulsion paint, fluorescent light. Dimensions variable.

How frequently do we see what we have learnt to see, rather than what is actually there? In this installation, Light, and our perception of it, is both subject and medium. Is one half of the wall darker, or is the other lighter? A relativistic optical illusion conceals the underlying unity. In the context of Delhi, a city that I experienced as deeply segregated, the work reminds us of the importance of a shared conception of space. Installation created at KHOJ studios in Delhi, during an Arts Council International Fellowship.
